J: “At the heart of my work is research on “the gaze from the inside out”, which I explore across various contexts, places, and histories. The window, which I photograph from the inside looking out in different settings, serves as a medium through which to observe the outside world from within. It offers a way to encounter people and their diverse backgrounds—places, histories, and perspectives.

I investigate how the frame through which we look shapes and colors our view of the world. How architecture forms, and directs, our gaze outward.

In March 2025, my work Between the Tides of Memory opened at the Singer Laren museum.
To develop this piece, I conducted research into the museum’s art collection and the artist colony that lived and worked in the Laren area roughly a century ago. I searched for the houses where these painters once lived, to capture the windows through which they looked. I examined the visual frames that shaped their perspective and considered what these spaces communicate today.

As a reflection on this research, I created an installation consisting of a painting, two sculptures, and a leporello book.”
